Thought I Knew

Last week I mentioned my wife and I celebrated 27 years of marriage this past August. Over that course of time, 21 years of it is me working as a pastor in a local church – The last twelve years as a family pastor. To bring more numbers into the story, we have four sons – ages 25, 21, 19, and 8, respectively. Now here’s another number for you – 0. This number represents my interest as a young adult (19- 24 years of age) in getting married, having kids, or working in a church. I wasn’t even going to church during that phase of my life. Now, I am married to a wonderful woman, I am beyond blessed to have my sons, and I love being a family pastor. I thought I knew what I wanted out of life and how to get it, and I controlled my destiny. I didn’t realize there was someone who had a greater interest in my life and knew what I needed the most.

I am grateful God first brought my family and me back to church so that we would learn of the salvation He has for us through Christ Jesus. I am also thankful; He helped me understand His plans are always best. We may not fully understand the process, but we don’t need to because He knows. This month your children are learning from the life of Joseph and Moses, who are great biblical examples of people trusting God through times of uncertainty.
