Pathways

Throughout my life, I have worked many part-time and full-time jobs. For example, I have been a host and manager in a family restaurant and Bagel shop. I have worked at a Levi jean store, a paint, and carpet store, as an after-school leader, a childcare teacher, and a worker at an as-is lot for Goodwell. Further, I had a job as a graphic designer for a large convention business. Some jobs were for summer fun money, others were for I need a position now to pay rent, and a few were possible career choices. Reflecting on these jobs, I see God's hand moving the pieces of my life to get me where He wants me. However, I will admit there were times as a Christ-follower, I would (and still do) ask – "God, what are you doing"?

Interestingly, the exodus account clearly states God's plan to lead His people toward the Red Sea rather than "lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines" (Exodus 13:17, CSB). Also, the reader understands why God took this pathway (v.17). No matter how random and painful our life path may take us, it is essential to remember God is still in control. In those moments, remember Moses's words, "Don't be afraid. Stand firm and see the LORD'S salvation He will provide for you today" (Exodus 14:13, CSB). Fun fact, one of the reasons I got my first job as a Children's pastor was because I had a graphic design background.
