Love Like Jesus

I have served with amazing Jesus followers. I have also served alongside people who felt rejected, who battled addictions, had marital issues, and life issues, who were fighting the busyness of life, and guess what? These are the same servants of God I mentioned earlier. I remember being on staff at a church in Vegas (10,000 +), overseeing 1st-3rd grade ministry (250 kids). I had a team of 90+ volunteers whom each would say serving wasn’t convenient or easy, but I know they loved ministering to the children. There was one elderly lady I remember; she was one of my small group leaders. This woman was a widow, had grown children who didn’t appreciate her, and struggled financially – but she served and attended worship service faithfully every Sunday. She also took the time to serve food to the homeless at our church. Her love for Jesus was far greater than any worldly problems or circumstances.

Jesus showed this love throughout His life here on earth, to the point of death (Romans 5:6-11). In his gospel, John gives his readers a glimpse of our Lord Jesus, who came to serve and not be served when He washed the disciple's feet (John 13:3-7). However, before this scene unfolds, John shares Jesus's love for His disciples (John 13:1, ESV). In His darkest hour, Jesus loved. He still loves us in this same way. So let us do the same, my friends – get uncomfortable, assume the posture of a servant, and love like Jesus.
