Integrity
Jamaican singer Bob Marley said this about integrity: “The greatness of a man is not how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” Former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower claims, “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang [railroad worker], a football field, an army, or an office.” Both men offer truthful insights on integrity. Author Henry Cloud describes a person of character (integrity) as someone who can meet the demands of reality. Essentially, Cloud argues that a person of character (integrity) understands the truth about themselves, the people around them and their circumstances and respond with appropriate action or adjustments in these areas.
King Solomon had a few thoughts about integrity – "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them" (Proverbs 11:3, ESV). Additionally, he says, "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out" (Proverbs 10:9, ESV). The Hebrew word for integrity means complete, perfect, blameless, and honest. Are you living with integrity in your home, relationships, and work? Are you honest with yourself and others, and if so, make the necessary adjustments and actions? Jesus, who is Truth incarnate, tells us if we abide in Him, we will bear good fruit (Luke 6:43-45; John 15:1-17). This connection to Truth should be a reflection in our whole lives.
