Hope

One of the main characters in Rogue One (a Star Wars movie), when given the challenge that all they had was hope against their enemy, the main character argues back with a profound statement – "Rebellions are built on hope." Now, for some of you, this statement may fall flat because, for some reason, you didn't watch this incredible piece of cinema. Ok, I'm a geek; what can I say? However, don't miss the impact of having hope as individuals and for those around us. The story's plot (and the entire Star Wars franchise) is about having hope against a formidable enemy.

In the Old Testament, God reminds Joshua not to lose hope. The LORD declares, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9, ESV). God reminds Joshua not to lose hope because He is with him. This hope is evident in the life of David, whose confidence is in his mighty God against a great enemy – Goliath (1Samuel 17:1-51); what's interesting, though, is that it began with Samuel regaining hope (with urging from God) and going out to seek the next king of Israel (1Samuel 16:1-4). This act of hope would eventually continue a historical storyline that leads to the birth of a Savior (Matthew 2:5-6; Luke 3:32). Therefore, don't lose hope in the Lord; you never know where it can lead and who you may inspire.
