Do Whatever He Tells You
Allow me to share a short dialogue from one of my favorite movies:
Miracle Max: Have fun stormin' da castle.
Valerie: Think it'll work?
Miracle Max: It would take a miracle.
Classic. The scene, of course, is from -The Princess Bride and our friends Inigo Montoya and Fezzik needed a miracle or two. Fantasy aside, these men had a few problems that needed solving. Quickly. Can you relate? I'm the type who likes responses and solutions to issues or dilemmas, if possible, done promptly. Of course, that means my timing. It doesn't always work that way. As Christ-followers, we serve and worship a sovereign God whose methods and ways are beyond our comprehension (Isaiah 55:8-9). Further, His timing is always perfect because He is perfect (Psalm 18:30).
John shares in his gospel a scene at a wedding our Lord Jesus, his mother, and the disciples are attending. It's also where Jesus performs His first miracle. Before the sign (miracle) is done, His mother gives the problem – the host is out of wine (John 2:3). Not good. Jesus tenderly informs his mother there is a grander plan in place beyond this issue of wine shortage (v.4). Nevertheless, Mary puts her trust in her Son Jesus and says to "do whatever He tells you" (v.5). As Christians this needs to be our attitude. Obedience to our Lord, regardless of if we don't have all the answers. Look to what He has instructed through His revealed Word and do whatever He tells you.
