Child Like Faith

I am sure the following statement is familiar – “having a child-like faith.” Even if you didn’t grow up going to church or belong to a Christian home, it is a phrase I am sure you are familiar with, and with this line of thinking- “oh, yeah, that’s cute.” As a parent and pastor, I have found that when you see this child-like faith (Matthew 18:3), you are witnessing the potential of God working powerfully. I have a sick little boy at home, and I am sure many of you are experiencing this same wonderful world of parenthood, caring for a sick child. Your heartbreaks for your little one, and you see how much they depend on you. Like you didn’t know that before. My son Aaron, struggling to talk right (due to his cough), gave me a request by putting his hands together to indicate he wanted prayer. He’s eight years old and baptized in Jesus’ name, so this request does not come lightly. Aaron is asking His heavenly Father for help. Child-like faith. Not little like a child, but in humility and understanding the mightiness of his God.

When we read the story of Jesus’ birth, the gospel writers give their audience insight into this type of faith. The angel Gabriel told Mary she would give birth to the “Son of the Most High” (Luke 1:32), and although there was wonderment about how this will happen, Mary understood ultimately – “nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). Child-like faith.
